Judy M. Nelson
Council Member
Term: 3/15 - 3/19

Judy Nelson is a Southern California native. She has a B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University and worked as an Occupational Therapist, specializing in pediatric rehabilitation for 10 years. Judy and her husband, Byron, were married in 1968 and moved to Glendora in 1980 with their four small children. Judy was a stay-at-home mom until 1985 when their youngest children, twins, were in 2nd grade. At that time, she opened Mrs. Nelson’s Toy and Book Shop with the goal of fostering a love of reading in children and their families. Over the years, Judy expanded her business to encompass 3 independent book businesses which included Mrs. Nelson’s Toy and Book Shop, Mrs. Nelson’s Book Fair Company (now managed by her daughter) and Mrs. Nelson’s Library Services (now managed by her son). In 2014 the book store branch of the business was closed due to changes in retail shopping patterns. Judy enjoys spending time with her family, including three grandchildren born in 2013, hiking, reading and traveling.

In recent years, Judy has become increasingly concerned with the direction of our State and Federal government. She is passionate about the need for leaders who serve with integrity and a commitment to doing what is in the best interests of the citizens. And she advocates for citizens to become actively involved in selecting responsible representatives and providing oversight to ensure that they are doing the job they were elected to do.

Judy was elected to the Glendora City Council in 2011. She serves on the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership and is Glendora’s delegate to the County Sanitation District. She is an alternate delegate to the Independent Cities Association of Los Angeles County, the Three Valleys Municipal Water District, the San Gabriel Valley Water Association and the Glendora Community Coordinating Council. Judy has vowed to do all in her power to ensure that Glendora remains fiscally sound and prosperous…the Pride of the Foothills.
