Community Services Shining Star Award
The Community Services Department would like to recognize Danielle Smith, Office Aide IV, as the September/October 2017 Shining Star Award winner.
Danielle has been with the City of Glendora since November of 2016, working at the Parks Yard, where her main job duties include tackling tree inquires and park maintenance requests from the public. The department was lucky enough to hire this college graduate from Rhodes College in Tennessee where she obtained a degree in Environmental Studies. While participating in higher education, she managed to participate in the Urban Forestry Fellowship, now lending her tree and plant expertise to the City of Glendora. Though Danielle has been employed with the City of Glendora for a short period of time, she has exceeded expectations, quickly educating herself on the City's Urban Forestry Policies and Park Maintenance Best Practices.
Danielle has been instrumental in the planning and development of the city's newest park the Glendora Arboretum & Botanic Garden. She worked closely with the Project Manager on the park layout and design; she carefully crafted a park maze and re-created images used in the parks architectural design. Danielle also demonstrated her creative side, painting several pieces of public art and assisted the Supervisor in ordering many trees and plants.
Danielle has been an extremely valuable addition to the Parks and Tree Division and has embodied a positive, driven, and customer focused attitude since she began. For these reasons we would like to recognize Danielle Smith as the Departments Shining Star for September/October 2017.
